AYRADIA™ is liquid metronidazole for dogs. This 125mg/ml metronidazole oral suspension for dogs is FDA approved and indicated for the treatment of Giardia duodenalis infection in dogs. AYRADIA™ comes in a flavored liquid for easy dosing either on food or by mouth.
Active Ingredients: Metronidazole oral suspension 125mg/ml

Storage: Store below 86°F in the upright position. Once opened, use within 6 months.
Side Effects: The most common side effects are vomiting and diarrhea.

Warnings: The use of this drug is contraindicated in animals with a history of a hypersensitivity to nitroimidazole compounds, including metronidazole.

Federal law prohibits the extra-label use of this drug in food-producing animals.

Precautions: Prescribing antimicrobial drugs in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected infection is unlikely to provide benefit to treated animals and may increase the risk of the development of drug resistant animal pathogens.

Use with caution in dogs with hepatic dysfunction.

Adverse neurologic effects have been associated with AYRADIA oral suspension use at high doses (see Target Animal Safety), but individual variation in sensitivity of dogs to the adverse neurologic effects of metronidazole has been reported.

The safe use of this drug in dogs intended for breeding purposes and in pregnant or lactating bitches has not been evaluated.

User Safety: People with known sensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives should avoid contact with AYRADIA oral suspension. This product is not a dermal or eye irritant but is a skin sensitizer which can potentially cause allergic contact dermatitis. Wash hands after use.

Avoid contact with skin. In case of skin contact, wash the affected area thoroughly. Persons who come in contact with the dog’s saliva during the first five minutes after administration should wash their hands. If the drug has been applied to dog food, the dog food should be kept away from children until after the dog has finished eating. Avoid accidental ingestion. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately.

Overdoses can be very dangerous. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.

If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.

This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

Disposal of Unused Prescription Medications

  1. Return unwanted or unused medications to Revival Animal Health in person, or visit www.disposemymeds.org to find a pharmacy near you.
  2. A secondary method of drug disposal is to remove the unwanted medication from any wrappers or containers and place it in a plastic bag with moist coffee grounds or cat litter. This can be disposed of in the regular garbage collection.
  3. Please do NOT dispose of unwanted meds down the drain or toilet, as this may eventually find its way into the human water supply.

Learn more about disposal of unused prescription medications here.

Disposal of Medical Sharps

  1. When you're finished with the syringe and needle, do not try to recap, remove, bend or break the needle. This is where most injuries occur.
  2. Dispose the syringe and needle immediately in a nearby sharps container. All sharps must be deposited in a puncture-proof container. Make sure your storage location is child and animal proof.
  3. As with all product handling, make sure you wash your hands after handling medical sharps.

Disposal of Sharps Container

  1. When your sharps container is half-full, sift dry Portland Cement throughout the sharps. Fill the container with water, and rotate until the cement is mixed and the sharps have been distributed throughout the cement mixture. Let cement dry for 24 hours.
  2. Seal the lid of the container tightly and use duct tape to seal. Label the container "Livestock Sharps" to properly identify the contents.
  3. Dispose of the containers in accordance with your state's regulations.

Our pharmacy hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. − 4:30 p.m. CST.
