PromAce® Injectable 10mg/mL aids in the tranquilization of dogs, cats and horses. This calming medicine for dogs, cats and horses has a depressant effect on the central nervous system and, therefore, causes sedation, muscular relaxation and a reduction in spontaneous activity. It acts rapidly, exerting a prompt and pronounced calming effect. Contains Acepromazine maleate for dogs, cats and horses.
Dogs and Cats: PromAce® Injectable can be used as an aid in controlling intractable animals during examination, treatment, grooming, X-ray and minor surgical procedures; to alleviate itching as a result of skin irritation; as an antiemetic to control vomiting associated with motion sickness. PromAce® Injectable is particularly useful as a preanesthetic agent to enhance and prolong the effects of barbiturates, thus reducing the requirements for general anesthesia. PromAce® for dogs and cats also serves as an adjunct to surgery under local anesthesia.
Horses: PromAce® for horses can be used as an aid in controlling fractious animals during examination, treatment, loading and transportation. This tranquilizer for horses is particularly useful when used in conjunction with local anesthesia for firing, castration, neurectomy, removal of skin tumors, ocular surgery and applying casts.
Active Ingredients: Acepromazine maleate injectable 10mg/mL
Storage: Store at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F), excursions permitted between 15° and 30°C (between 59° and 86°F). When used as labeled, there is no limit on the number of punctures throughout the full expiry period.
Side Effects: A few rare but serious occurrences of idiosyncratic reactions to acepromazine may occur in dogs following oral or parenteral administration. These potentially serious adverse reactions include behavioral disorders in dogs such as aggression, biting/chewing, and nervousness.
Warnings:
Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.
Do not use to control tremors associated with organic phosphate poisoning. Do not use in conjunction with organophosphorus vermigues or ectoparasiticides, including flea collars. Do not use with procaine hydrochloride.
Precautions:
Can produce prolonged depression or motor restlessness when given in excessive amounts or when given to sensitive animals.
Use with caution in animals with a previous history of liver dysfunction or leukopenia.
Hypotension can occur after rapid intravenous injection causing cardiovascular collapse.
Overdoses can be very dangerous. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.
This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.
Disposal of Unused Prescription Medications
- Return unwanted or unused medications to Revival Animal Health in person, or visit www.disposemymeds.org to find a pharmacy near you.
- A secondary method of drug disposal is to remove the unwanted medication from any wrappers or containers and place it in a plastic bag with moist coffee grounds or cat litter. This can be disposed of in the regular garbage collection.
- Please do NOT dispose of unwanted meds down the drain or toilet, as this may eventually find its way into the human water supply.

Disposal of Medical Sharps
- When you're finished with the syringe and needle, do not try to recap, remove, bend or break the needle. This is where most injuries occur.
- Dispose the syringe and needle immediately in a nearby sharps container. All sharps must be deposited in a puncture-proof container. Make sure your storage location is child and animal proof.
- As with all product handling, make sure you wash your hands after handling medical sharps.
Disposal of Sharps Container
- When your sharps container is half-full, sift dry Portland Cement throughout the sharps. Fill the container with water, and rotate until the cement is mixed and the sharps have been distributed throughout the cement mixture. Let cement dry for 24 hours.
- Seal the lid of the container tightly and use duct tape to seal. Label the container "Livestock Sharps" to properly identify the contents.
- Dispose of the containers in accordance with your state's regulations.
