- Equine asthma treatment
- Features Soft Mist™ Technology that delivers medication in a slow-moving mist
Aservo® EquiHaler® is a horse asthma treatment. This horse inhaler is used for the management of clinical signs associated with severe equine asthma in horses. Each Aservo® inhaler contains 140 treatment puffs.
Aservo® EquiHaler® features Soft Mist™ Technology that delivers medication in a slow-moving mist. The activated prodrug has 12 times greater glucocorticoid receptor affinity than dexamethasone. No statistically significant decrease in serum cortisol. Accepted by more than 93% of horses. Proven safety and efficacy under controlled and field conditions in over 600 horses* (*Treated with Aservo® EquiHaler® or placebo.)
The nostril adapter on this equine asthma inhaler fits inside the left nostril of the horse, while the BreathView® indicator allows the user to time the generation of the mist with the beginning of inhalation. The inhaler is ergonomically designed for left-hand use, allowing the right hand to remain free to control the horse.

Side Effects: Side effects that are not serious may include cough or sneezing, and nasal discharge.
Serious side effects may include breathing condition is not improving or worsening despite treatment, nasal irritation (soreness, redness, scabs and bleeding), weight loss and onset of lameness. Notify your veterinarian immediately if you see any of these signs.
Warnings: Do not use in horses with known hypersensitivity to ciclesonide or corticosteroids.
Not for use in humans. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.
Animal Safety Warnings and Precautions: Safe use of Aservo® EquiHaler® has not been evaluated in pregnant or lactating mares. Clinical and experimental data have demonstrated that corticosteroids administered orally or by injection to animals may induce the first stage of parturition if used during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipitate premature parturition followed by dystocia, fetal death, retained placenta, and metritis. Additionally, corticosteroids administered during pregnancy can be teratogenic. Therefore, Aservo® EquiHaler® should only be used in pregnant mares if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Administration of corticosteroids may worsen existing bacterial, fungal, or viral infection. Secondary infections should be ruled out before prescribing Aservo® EquiHaler®. Inhaled corticosteroids should be used with caution, if at all, in horses with active infection of the respiratory tract. If clinical signs do not improve or worsen despite administration of Aservo® EquiHaler®, the prescriber should consider additional diagnostic evaluation.
Due to the potential for exacerbation of clinical signs of laminitis, glucocorticoids should be used with caution in horses with a history of laminitis, or horses otherwise at a higher risk for laminitis.
Use with caution in horses with chronic nephritis, equine pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), and congestive heart failure.
Concurrent use of other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or other corticosteroids, should be approached with caution. Due to the potential for systemic exposure, concomitant use of NSAIDs and corticosteroids may increase the risk of gastrointestinal, renal, and other toxicity. Consider appropriate wash out times prior to administering NSAIDs or additional corticosteroids.
Prior to use, please refer to the detailed instructions for the handling and use of Aservo® EquiHaler® provided in the “User Manual". Aservo® EquiHaler® should only be administered in the left nostril of the horse. Following careful and proper insertion, the Aservo® EquiHaler® should have a snug fit in the left nostril. A snug fit is required to ensure the horse receives a complete dose of Aservo® EquiHaler®.
Overdoses can be very dangerous. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.
This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

Disposal of Unused Prescription Medications
- Return unwanted or unused medications to Revival Animal Health in person, or visit www.disposemymeds.org to find a pharmacy near you.
- A secondary method of drug disposal is to remove the unwanted medication from any wrappers or containers and place it in a plastic bag with moist coffee grounds or cat litter. This can be disposed of in the regular garbage collection.
- Please do NOT dispose of unwanted meds down the drain or toilet, as this may eventually find its way into the human water supply.
Learn more about disposal of unused prescription medications here.
Disposal of Medical Sharps
- When you're finished with the syringe and needle, do not try to recap, remove, bend or break the needle. This is where most injuries occur.
- Dispose the syringe and needle immediately in a nearby sharps container. All sharps must be deposited in a puncture-proof container. Make sure your storage location is child and animal proof.
- As with all product handling, make sure you wash your hands after handling medical sharps.
Disposal of Sharps Container
- When your sharps container is half-full, sift dry Portland Cement throughout the sharps. Fill the container with water, and rotate until the cement is mixed and the sharps have been distributed throughout the cement mixture. Let cement dry for 24 hours.
- Seal the lid of the container tightly and use duct tape to seal. Label the container "Livestock Sharps" to properly identify the contents.
- Dispose of the containers in accordance with your state's regulations.
Our pharmacy hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. − 4:30 p.m. CST.
