- Cross-Protection Against CAV1 - The CAV2 fraction has been shown to be effective against disease caused by CAV1 (infectious canine hepatitis).
- Economical Combination Vaccine - Attenuated, immunogenic strains propagated in cell line tissue cultures, with gentamicin and thimerosal added as preservatives.
Spectra™ 9 is a comprehensive, economical combination vaccine designed to help protect healthy dogs 6 weeks of age and older against a wide range of serious canine diseases. It contains immunogenic, attenuated strains of Canine Distemper (CDV), Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (CAV2), Canine Parainfluenza (CPIV), and Canine Parvovirus (CPV) type 2b, propagated in cell line tissue cultures. The accompanying diluent includes Leptospira bacterial antigens to provide added protection against multiple Leptospira species.
The CAV2 fraction has been shown to be effective against disease caused by CAV1 (infectious canine hepatitis), offering broader adenovirus coverage. In addition, the CPV2b strain has demonstrated effective protection against CPV2c, even in puppies with maternal antibodies to parvovirus. Spectra™ 9 is formulated to aid in the prevention of canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, CAV2, parainfluenza, parvovirus, and Leptospira canicola, L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. grippotyphosa, and L. pomona. Gentamicin and thimerosal are included as preservatives. The duration of immunity has not been determined.
Directions for Use
Open the syringe by twisting or tapping the cap against a hard surface to break the heat weld. Aseptically rehydrate the vaccine cake with 1 mL of the sterile diluent supplied. Shake well. Withdraw the entire contents into the syringe and administer one 1 mL dose subcutaneously.
Subcutaneous Administration
Lift the loose skin behind the neck or behind the front leg and insert the needle. Inject the entire contents of the syringe. Do not inject directly into a blood vessel.
Important: Before injecting the vaccine, pull back slightly on the syringe plunger. If blood enters the syringe freely, choose another injection site.
All dogs should initially receive one dose of this product and a second dose 2 to 3 weeks later. The presence of maternal antibodies may interfere with the development of active immunity, and additional boosters are typically required in most young animals. Historically, annual revaccination with a single dose has been recommended; however, the need for this booster has not been established. Consultation with a veterinarian is recommended for guidance on revaccination frequency and annual booster vaccinations.
