The FIP Pro™ Feline Peritonitis Test is a rapid, reliable, and affordable FIP test for cats that helps quickly assess effusion samples when Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is suspected. Designed to differentiate between transudates and exudates in feline effusions, this simple test provides clear, visual results in just minutes. By adding the effusion sample to the acetic acid reaction tube, the test detects high protein content, indicated by teardrop-shaped precipitates, mists, or smears, to support an FIP diagnosis. In contrast, transudates dissolve fully in the solution, signaling a negative reaction.

An invaluable screening tool for the wet (effusive) form of FIP, the FIP Pro™ test is most effective when used alongside other diagnostics like FIP blood tests, physical exams, imaging, and cytology for a complete diagnostic profile. This single-use, point-of-care FIP test for cats requires no specialized equipment, making it ideal for veterinary clinics and mobile veterinarians who need fast, dependable results to guide treatment decisions and client conversations.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sample: Collect a small amount of ascites or pleural effusion from the cat using sterile technique.
  2. Add the Sample: Using a dropper or pipette, add 3-5 drops of the effusion sample directly into the dye tube. Use dropper to mix well.
  3. Open Reaction Tube: Remove the cap from the acetic acid reaction tube included in the kit. Add 1 drop of the dye-pleural effusion mix. Handle carefully - avoid skin or eye contact. DO NOT shake.
  4. Observe Reaction Immediately: Let the tube sit undisturbed at room temperature while examining the solution for visible reaction. Positive Reaction (Exudate): Teardrop-shaped precipitates, mist, or smears form. Negative Reaction (Transudate): Solution remains a clear, light blue; sample dissolves completely.

Note: A positive reaction supports the possibility of FIP, but this is not a definitive diagnosis. Use in conjunction with other clinical findings and diagnostics (e.g., imaging, cytology, FIP blood test, PCR).
Dispose Safely: Discard used tubes and materials according to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and local regulations.
